Coconut Dream

Coconut. Is it the Ultimate Fruit??

Coconut has gotten a bad rap in the past, but researchers are finding new facts about this miracle fruit to prove otherwise.

Coconut oil, meat & cream does contain saturated fat, but these fats are Medium Chain Fatty Acids, which are actually burned for energy, rather than stored in your cells. Lauric Acid, the main fat in Coconuts also helps to lower your risk of heart disease by improving your ratio of total cholesterol to good HDL cholesterol

• Coconut oil is great for the skin and it also kills germs!

• Coconut Oil is great to cook with because it doesn’t oxidize when heated. Oxidation causes unhealthy free radicals. Make sure to buy Extra Virgin Coconut Oil.

• Coconut Oil may help to fight off infections.

• Add some coconut meat to your protein shake to make a heart-healthy, deliciously tasting treat!

• Fresh Coconut water, from a young coconut, is like nature’s Gatorade. It contains all our essential electrolytes, which is perfect post-exercise.

Right on Tony! Coconut is one of my favorite foods on this planet... however, unlike good ol' India coconuts aren't that popular here in US. No beach back home is complete without a store selling fresh coconut water... aha!
Hey, using coconut milk in daily cooking is also a good alternative to the fatty cream and all.
By the way, I haven't been able to BRING IT for the last 2 weeks because of a crazy schedule... man do i miss it! I'll be bringin it next week and will also be starting P90X+, for which i am really stoked!

peace,

Amit

Yea, try and cut one open - what a pain. Have you actually tried to drink coconut milk - yuuuukkk, nasty stuff. Perhaps there are some secrets unknown to me that can be used to improve the taste - but raw coconut milk straight from the nut - ugggggg.
And the cocunut meat - straight from the nut - again, yuuukkk. Nasty stuff.
However, the stuff sold in the baking isle at the store - now that is good. Nice and sweet!

Tony,

Have you ever seen that Man vs. Wild show on the Discovery Channel, featuring that ex-British military special forces dude, Bear Grylls? When he's stuck on a deserted island somewhere in the middle of nowhere, the first thing he does is to look for coconut trees. He not only can attain a nutritious meal with hydration, but he can also use the leaves and bark for shelter and fire. What a great plant!!

Anyway, great blog on a very misunderstood fruit. In fact, studies have clearly shown that traditional Asian cultures that eat significant amounts of coconut in their diet do not suffer from modern diseases seen in western cultures that promote a low-fat diet. Mmmm, what's with that? Maybe it's the lauric acid, which is known for being an antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal agent. Also, lauric acid has the additional beneficial function of being formed into monolaurin in the human or animal body. Monolaurin is the antiviral, antibacterial, and antiprotozoal monoglyceride used by the human or animal to destroy lipid-coated viruses such as HIV, herpes, cytomegalovirus, influenza, various pathogenic bacteria including listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori, and protozoa such as giardia lamblia.

You know, living in one of the largest, most populous cities in the world, you can bet your bottom dollar that I'm gonna look into anything that will reduce my exposure to dangerous pathogens.

Thanks again, Tony, for the great advice, and it was good to see you all on TV again!

Tony, I am on day 65 of P90x, I have inspired my father who is overweight also to bring it.I have also gotten a high school baseball coach to implement it into his offseason program. I would like to thank you for a beautiful program that has changed my life already. I am ready to give it another 90 days after this round. I was 280 at one point of my life and now I am 200 and the fittest I have ever been. Thanks Tony.

Thanks Tony

I just crossed day 31 of P90X and my wife and I are still pushing play.

What a great workout Pylo is; I like to throw some coconut water in the mix with my recovery drink, it sweetens it up and I reap the benefits.

Keep up the good work Tony!

I use extra virgin coconut oil in my oatmeal, I cook with it, and I also use it as a moisturizer for my skin instead of lotions that have tons of chemicals. It is totally multi purpose which I love.

Wow....coconut...? Cook with it just like EVOO, but even better?

Coconut oil in oatmeal? Hmmmm maybe I'm being narrowminded but not sure if I can trade that for the honey.....

Thanks for the pointers!!

coconut oil also makes a great hair conditioning treatment!! if you saturate your hair with it and sit under a dryer for 10 minutes, incredibly shine, softness and no frizz!

I tend not to leave a response, however I browsed some of the remarks here "Coconut Dream".

I actually do have 2 questions for you if it's okay. Could it be just me or do a few of these remarks come across like they are coming from brain dead individuals? :-P And, if you are writing at other online social sites, I'd like
to follow you. Would you post a list of the complete urls of your shared sites like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?
