Sister Kit on Fire!

This inspirational note came from my bad-ass sister Kit this morning. Got me so pumped that I had to post it here. Enjoy!

BE INSPIRED!!

I don't know about everyone else, but the Olympics are a favorite time of year around our house. Can you not help but be truly inspired when you watch these amazing athletes!!?? This is the one time I will allow a stretch of 3 hour TV watching for my kids.

Yes, you can sit back and say they are young, devote their whole lives to their training and have lots of money to have multiple trainers, physical therapists, massage therapists, nutritionists and the like around them 24/7. But, all those people don't run the race or swim the laps for them. They are the ones who get in the pool, run on the track, and go to the gym everyday, several hours per day. Their commitment to their sport and determination should be inspirational to us all.

One nuance to this year's games that truly inspires me is the age of many of these athletes. Let's just give a big hurrah for all the "old" (I use this term very loosely) moms in the Olympics this year. 41-year-old Dara Torres began swimming again just to get in shape after having a baby. Now she's making her fifth trip to the Olympics and won a silver medal last night!! 39-year-old Sheila Taormina has become the first person to qualify for the Games in three different sports. And cyclist Jeanne Longo, 49, who has competed in seven Olympic Games, is already talking about the next one. I believe the Romanian female marathoner who won gold yesterday is 38 years old! Gals, NO MORE EXCUSES!!

I just got back from vacation and did my share of indulging. Kept with my workout routine, though, and was so glad I did. Getting right back on it this week with the Olympic inspiration and the picture of my new idol, Dara Torres hanging on my mirror!!

This week's schedule

Today: Conditioning class (strength, slide, kickboxing)
Monday: Spinning-1 hour (9:30 am)
Tuesday: Chest and Back and Ab Ripper (5:00 am)
Wednesday: P90X Plus Intervals (5:00 am)
Thursday: P90X Upper Body Plus and Ab Ripper Plus (5:00 am)
Friday: Spinning-1 hour (10 am)
Saturday: Rest

You know Tony, our society beats us down with all it's quick fixes for satisfaction. If we're hungry, all we have to do is walk a block down the road and buy a burger for a buck. The foods in the grocery store that are on sale are always the foods that are bad for us.

I know, I did it. I let my body get beaten down. I come from a family of athletes and was in the martial arts for many years. But my family has a history of getting old and fat. My Uncle loves to call all of us, "ticking time bombs".

Till last year, I had enough. I lost 80+ lbs and am just about in the best shape of my life. Arguably, in some areas, I am in the best shape of my life thanks to P90X, P90X+, and the One on Ones. I've also incorporated my old martial arts training and soon, I'll be the strongest, most fit I've ever been.

What if I would have stayed on track? Who knows what I would be like today? But that's the past. I'm 38 years old and MAN, am I going to be in better shape than I was when I was a kid.

Again, thanks for the boost and the training Tony. You hear it all the time but here's yet another one.

See you in chat tonight

Isn't it awesome to have one of the near and dear on board? I finally got my brother to check out some P90x DVD's ( He was convinced you were like Richard Simmons, took about 10 seconds to realize the error of his ways), and I'm happy to note that he's pushin' play and now hounding ME about staying track. LOL. It's great.

I love the Olympics! I love seeing the determination of the athletes. Bob Costas was talking last night about the American Women's Rowing team. He mentioned how for four years they have no glamor or praise, just hard work and perserverance. I'm striving to get that mindset of determination and drive to get better everyday. Thank you for the honesty of your workouts and the reality that it's hard but you have something to reach for and attain if you keep going.

Tony,

First off, I've got to say that I've had the extreme pleasure of meeting your talented sister Kit at NY camp a couple of times and was able to witness firsthand how athletically gifted she really is; I mean, who else was able to actually challenge you or Traci! I guess this fitness thing must run in the family-:)) The proverbial apple never falls far from the tree-;)

At the crisp young age of 45, it always makes me feel good to see some 40-something mom go for the gold, and I think that really says something about this wonderful country we live in. Man, hats off to the land of unlimited opportunities. Where there's a will, there is a way. And that's why my mom and dad came here from war-torn Europe, baby! Where else can you really be what you wanna be, right? NO is an option only if you will it to be, but YES shines as bright and far as the torch of Lady Liberty on a cool November night.

Watching the Olympics is a solid reminder of how hard, consistent work can be transformed into the success of a lifetime. Is there any better role model than an Olympic athlete? Think of the thousands of kids who will look up to a Michael Phelps for many years to come. They're even still putting Mark Spitz's face on the cereal boxes, aren't they?? And he struck gold 36 years ago!! But seriously, I'm old enough to remember that he was revered by countless Americans for many years after his victories, and still is!

Good, wholesome, clean living--it's not boring anymore!

Tony,

I know that I am telling you something you are already quite aware is true, however, I don't think good things are said often enough. Having run the Big Lake half-marathon (a first for both of us!!) with her and attended camp in 2007 and met her awesome family I can only come to this conclusion. Kit is one amazing and incredibly fit person! She has a kindness and a warmth that is even evident to us East coast folk. She had been nothing but kind to myself, my wife and my son. I feel honored to have met not only you but an extension of the great family you come from. I hope to share many more fitness conquests with her in the future.

Thanks again for sharing on your blog.

All my very best,
Chuck

Tony,
I couldn't have said it better! The Olympics really do remind us of what determination can accomplish, regardless of how many times we have been around the block.

I am incredibly inspired by Dara Torres and the other "over 30" gals. I didn't find real fitness until I discovered P90X at age 42. I can honestly say I just keep getting fitter - much do to YOUR inspiration.

I will never win an Olympic medal, but I feel like I have because I am fit.

Thanks for keeping us going!!

Kim Carroll
