Time

Where has the time gone? "I don’t have the time." "There are not enough hours in the day." If we all had a dime for every comment we have made in our lives about time, we would be rich, and we would also have a-heck-of-a-lot more time. Time is a tricky topic. So many of us look for more in our daily lives and never find it; the mother with children who can’t seem to find the time to exercise; the person who, after a long day of hard work just wants to relax and not think about anything, and then wonders why nothing gets done. We all have the same 24 hours and none of us knows exactly how much time we'll have on this planet, so using time wisely is essential for a happy and joyful existence. Sometimes it's a good idea to take the time to figure out if your choices make for a happy & healthy life. When you're looking for solutions to help solve problems it hard sometimes to know if you're being sold a bill of goods. We don't have the time (or make the time) to clearly learn and understand the concepts and philosophies that can help make our lives better. When it comes to our health and fitness for example, the common belief is that you must eat measured amounts of healthy food and exercise regularly. Pretty simple, yet most people don't do it. Too hard, too complicated, no time. Because we're not willing to really understand the process of change, we take the lazy man's way out and buy pills, potions and gimmicks to solve our problems. A vicious cycle where somebody else is making a dollar and you're getting fooled again.

We all possess the power to use the time we are given as efficiently or inefficiently as we choose, and since we're all on the same playing field as far as time goes, why do some accomplish so much and others so little?  It’s pretty simple actually, but some of us forget the process sometimes. Decide what you want, decide what you need to do, and organize those tasks or chores accordingly. (I told you it was simple…) For instance, I don't miss my workouts because they are my top priority. They make me feel good, it’s a chance to hang out with friends and since it’s something I love, it makes it fun too.  It’s why I designed my programs to be somewhat pre-organized, to make it as easy as possible for you to reach your own fitness goals, all you have to do is show up. If you fill your life with the things that matter, whether it be in your goals for fitness, work, personal, whichever, you will be actively involved in your life and your day will be filled with worthwhile activities. The thought of taking an hour out of your day to exercise is overwhelming to many people. "I don't have the time (or desire) for that!" The science of exercise physiology has shown that 3 ten minute workouts spread throughout the day is just as effective as routines lasting an hour. If you believe that Power90 and P90X routines are too time consuming then fine; now you have no more excuses. Ten Minute Trainer is the fitness time crunch solution. This program was designed to allow everyone to make the time for exercise and good health. I want you to organize, categorize and prioritize your choices in life. Take the time to map out the hours, days, weeks, and years you are blessed with, and I guarantee you will never run out of time again.

Tony,

You are absolutely right. It is about making a choice to make the time. I get an hour for lunch and I use 30 mins to walk every day and leave the rest to eat my lunch and take a break from the day. People at work can't believe I do this everyday. I have my workouts scheduled on my refrigerator and I mark them off. Twice a week I schedule in P90X Yoga - that is my treat. LOL If more people just made the time they would see how much better life is.

Yo Tony!

You know, the late, great and somewhat infamous Napoleon Bonaparte once declared, "Take time to deliberate; but when the time for action arrives, stop thinking and go in.” I guess that sums it up in a nutshell, right? Just go in and get it! Yeah, yeah, yeah, we have no time, we're tired, exhausted, demoralized, out of shape, nauseated, sick, dizzy, whatever! With movement and direction comes happiness and satisfaction. I bought Ten Minute Trainer, tried it, liked it, and never ever knew that so much joy and happiness could be had from simply moving my body during ten lousy minutes! The moves are relatively simple and very effective, and a lot fun to boot. You will thank yourself in the end, believe me.

Tony, can't wait for your One on One to come out, bro! You and Mason came up with a great one there!

Nick

Tony:
4% (keep reading)

As always, well said. I thank you for all you do. Related to your comments, I was riding my bike the the other day and thinking about this very same issue - time, and how often I hear family and co-workers use the infamous "not enough time" excuse for so many things, but mostly for exercise.

So, I came up with a new motto/slogan for working out and staying fit - that new motto is 4%

What does 4% mean? Well, if you are P90Xer like me, and it has become a way of life, 4% is that one hour per day you invest taking care of yourself. 4% is a pretty small number, but isn't it sad that so many Americans cannot take just 4% of their time and/or day to take care of ourselves. For some reason, when I put living longer and healthier into the terms of 4% - it all just makes sense to me. Put another way, if we live to be around 70 years old, 4% is barely 2.5 years to "keep the engine running smoothly".

So, 4% to you!

Kevin

Tony,

I've heard the "time" excuse for too many years, and even I had used it. Not enough time in the day to get stuff done, not enough time to eat, to sleep, etc.

Four years ago, outside of my work week:
I sang in a barbershop chorus, I taught CCD, I sang in the chorus at church, I hung out with my friends one night, and weekends were my own to do whatever I wanted. My life was busy, but I made the time to do the things that I enjoyed.

I now still work a 40 hour work week. But outside of work, I'm working out every night with P90X and the ShaunT challenge. Why? Because I need to take care of myself for one reason and one reason alone - because I choose to.

No one else is going to get me in shape but me. The only one that would keep me from getting into shape and eating correctly is me.

Now, when I work during the day, I work hard. I focus and devote my time to do whatever's necessary because there will always be a task at hand, always something to do. At night, I workout with P90X. Why? Because I want to push myself, improve my health, and keep pursuing the next level. I've also purchased P90X+, and will be doing that after one or two rounds of P90X.

Today, I bought Ten Minute Trainer for my girlfriend. She works in the city, gets home late, and rarely has the time to workout. Ten Minute Trainer is my gift to her, so she will be able to workout again.

Tony, thank you for making a difference in my life through Power 90, Power Half Hour, Power 90 Master Series, and now P90X. Your programs have helped maximize what I am capable of doing, and pushing me to the next level. :)

Hey Tony,
Any chance you would be willing to blog about the ladies and lifting weights? I'm a coach and I get a lot of concern from the female population that they are afraid if they lift big they'll get big. I'd love it if you could clarify this point for me. You talked about it in NY last year and I try to talk about Traci and Michelle Draper as folks who lift good sized weights and aren't incredible she-hulks. That'd be great. Thanks Tony,

Great read. I think a lot of people try to make excuses and never actually take the "time" to do organize time itself. As my martial arts teacher simply always said about practicing techniques, "People always make the excuse 'I don't have time.' Well make time!!" :)

*nod* powerful reminder that within reason, one's life is the result of deliberate choices (even it is choosing to be indifferent). It's not what ya got, it's what you do with it. Good read.

You are so right! Taking the time is one thing - and making the time is the whole difference! 4 months ago I was looking at myself and wondering how I could get "fit" - having moved out to Oklahoma and met a P90X hero (my fiance). Now I'm keeping up with the videos and loving P90X+. I feel like a million bucks - I don't know where I'd be without it! Thank you!

I thought about this today too! I work 35 hours a week and i go to college full time. On average, i have 5 tests a week right now (summer classes) and i just became a coach! Today, i was on my way to Jumpstart (i volunteer here on tuesdays) and i turned around. I feel so tired and worn out...I kept thinking, this is my only day off, can't i just have fun!? So i didn't go. yes, i should have and yes, i did have time. I do have a test tonight that i needed to study for, but again, these are all just excuses!

In yet another reason to get rid of excuses, ran across this
http://www.reuters.com/article/healthNews/idUSTON70483420080617?feedType=RSS&feedName=healthNews&sp=true
which is an article related to a study being conducted on men with low-risk prostate cancer. Turns out a healthy lifestyle may contribute to alterations at the genetic level, turning "on" disease fighting genes and turning "off" disease promoting ones. In just three months. As if there were not enough reasons to step away from the french fries!

Interesting read.

Tony, I have started the Power 90x again. I don't know what I am thinking but it kicks my butt dude. I love it. Question, I have pretty good abs from teaching and doing different ones all the time. I seem to be having trouble coming up without any hands on the DreyaRoll. I don't know if it's my big booty or what. Any tips would be great.

I was wondering if you ever considered changing the layout of your blog?
Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a
little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two images.
Maybe you could space it out better?
