Day 1

Here it is... 2010. Now what? New year, new decade and new opportunities. I'm going on QVC twice in the next 24 hours and my job will be to convince people to pick up the phone and order P90X. Hundreds of thousands, or even millions of people will be watching, but only a handful will take the first step and call us while we're on the air. Some won't be ready, some maybe too old, some just hate exercise, and many others will wait for the "weight-loss-with-food" program to buy. Another group are still under the impression that a machine will change their life.

Everyone knows by now that the start of a new year creates the desire to be a better person. Smoking, drinking, bad eating habits, procrastinating, better work habits, spend less, save more, get fit, lose weight, and so it goes. Enthusiasm that will last well into April. Turns out that long term change is really hard and falling into old habits can happen with very little pressure from the outside world.

Turns out that success comes to those with good mentors, a rock solid plan that fits your lifestyle, a means to stay accountable, and surrounding yourself with like-minded people. Many many folks with the best of intentions have been winging it year after year with little or no change. I meet far too many people who have fallen off the wagon. They were on the program but something happened and before you know it 3 or 4 weeks went by and 10 to 15 pounds come back and they're right back where they were. Sound familiar?

1. Follow the person and/or program that makes sense to you.
2. Write down a plan that forces you to stick with your goals for the next 12 months.
3. Finds 3 ways to stay accountable even under the most adverse conditions
4. Run from lazy naysayers and find people who want more out of life.

This is great advice! I'm just finishing up week 3 of p90x and am glad that I started before the holidays. Having a plan and a good mentor (my wife) has made all the difference - oh, and the videos are awesome too!

I love this program. I completed the "lean routine" and am in week 10 of the classic. I just turned 60 in December. I have seen great results and plan to continue. Just need to know what to do next. Thank you for this great program for overall fitness and flexibility.

Sitting here watching you on QVC I am crying. I am so morbidly obese; but I don't even think I can do the modified exercises you show. I have no one to buddy up with like the husbands and wives.

I am so discouraged. Walking hurts, bending my knees hurt. Yet I know if I could do your program all of those issues would go away, along with the disgusting body I created. Yep. I hate myself.

Terri do not give up on yourself.
The more you say you hate yourself, the more you are reinforcing the negativity that prevents you from changing for the better.
My humble suggestion would be to meet with a Dr. to find out what type of exercises and intensity level would be safe for you to start at. Then meet with a dietician (or even read the eating guide to P90X). Then meet with a trainer or review material online and lay out a work out plan.
Everyone can do something. Establish realistic goals but consider them rungs on a ladder, meet a goal and strive to meet to the next. None of us I would wager to say think it is easy but we take it one day at a time.
Believe in yourself, commit and move forward, best wishes.

For ages my husband and I were embarrassed to admit we bought P90X from an infomercial ... but now that he is 25 lbs lighter (and gaining muscle!) and I can do real pull-ups for the first time in my life and am regaining my old athletic ability, we are proud to share with others.

There are tons of people on the beachbody boards looking for online workout buddies for encouragement, and I'd love to support you if you're interested. You are not alone, and you can do this. The boards are littered with success stories, and some of the success stories are from people who started P90X while morbidly obese. You may only be able to do half a push-up on your knees now, but if you keep at it, eat right and realize how important you are the possibilities are endless even though you don't think so now.

Terri, a wise man once said, "Do your best. That's always enough." He also said, "Do what you can."

So, do what you can. I've been there, so I can probably take a good guess at what your current diet is. Drink more water and cut out junk food for five days, just five days, and that alone might just change your life.

Do what you can for exercise. Start small and don't overdo it. You WILL get stronger and feel better.

And then, some day in the future, you'll get through the P90x tapes without taking extra breaks and without modifying the moves, and you'll say, "Wow, did I do that?" just like I did.

Oh yeah, and Tony's the man, and yoga rules.

Mr. Tony Horton! I absolutely love p90x. I follow it religiously and love the results. I still can't get anyone else to do it with me but that's alright. You and the "kids" are fun enough to work out with. To anyone that thinks this program is another of the let downs you see all over tv, YOU'RE WRONG! This program is the real deal and with a simple commitment to better yourself, you'll be absolutely amazed at the results you'll get. I feel better than ever, physically and mentally. Thanks for these great tips. I could have used them last night in the car driving back to nyc while arguing with my brother about the benefits of working out;) I'm a firm believer that we can foster change in others through our own actions, and those actions need to be consistent and accountable--free from the negative opinions of others--so that we can succeed in our mission of change. Every time my bro sees me with greater muscle mass, I know that after the initial jealous reaction, I've made an indelible impression in getting him closer to change.

I am overweight about 45+pounds and recently had knee surgery for a torn meniscus. I really want to lose weight and get in better shape.
Is this type of exercise program too strenuous?

When P90X showed up on my porch I was so irritated that my husband had bought something from an infomercial that I almost sent it back. After I relaxed I gave him the time and space he needed to do it. His job and the winter colds that are going around kept him from really being able to keep up with the schedule. Around New Years I was thumbing through the books. I decided to start the diet and exercise plan with him. Its easier to commit when you have a little competition going on. "I worked out today honey, did you?" :-P Its only my 3rd day, so I'm still in a lot of "good" pain. I really like it. I'm glad I didn't return it! The meals in the book are pretty good too! Thanks Tony!

I just finished my first round of the program and love this workout!! The only thing is that I was never able to get into the Yoga workout...one, it's very long and two, it's hard. :) I'm starting round two of P90X and wondering if my results would be better if I incorporated the Yoga. Any suggestions?

I'm going to do the Yoga work out for the first time tomorrow, so I can't really comment except that from what I hear Yoga is a kickass workout and is very beneficial for your mind and body's well being. The more you do it the better you get. It also strengthens your core muscles and gives you better balance. I can't wait till tomorrow!

I just finished the yoga section of my first week. Up until now it's been (more or less) no problem keeping up with you, but this was the first video where I had to pause, sit down, and seriously contemplate whether or not you're human. Apparently at 20 I have the joint and muscle flexibility of an 80 year old. Go figure.

Anyways, just wanted to say thanks, and that you terrify me.

Also, I can't stop saying "man o man, o manischewitz" now, and blame you entirely.

If you find the P90X yoga too long then try doing the first half up to "the last Vinyasa" and some of the balance postures.

2009 was, well, a bad year. My fault. I let myself and my health spiral downwards. I surrounded myself with people that were not healthy. The day after Christmas I decided enough was enough. I had purchased the P90X a couple years ago and put it on the shelf. Since December 29, I have used this program every day. I have started eating healthier and stopped drinking AND..i feel SO much better. I love my work outs. As hard as they were in the beginning, I find every day I am able to keep up a little bit more. Im still in the beginning stages of this program but I am already seeing the changes. Thank you Tony!!

On day 4 of P90X... sore as hell, but loving it. Haven't done Yoga X yet (that's today's workout), but reading the comment above from Delbirt, I wonder what kind of torture awaits me! I am going to stick with it...

P90X is really amazing. I'm on week 8 getting ready to start the last month. My sister-in-law saw the results and decided to order her own copy and another friend is going for it as well. I have never been in better shape and I'm about to turn 38. Can't wait to finish round 1 and start round 2. My goal for 2010 is to be able to do the 120 pull-ups in the legs and back routine, un-assisted. Tony is awesome!

My wife and I have always been fitness freaks, and I play semi-pro soccer as well. Last year when we found we were expecting our first child, we decided to get P90X so that she could start getting back into shape at home with the baby. It's now 3 months since we both started the program (she does it 6 days a week and I do it twice a week since I already hit the gym daily), and coupled with the meal plan, we both have seen dramatic results. She has lost all the weight she gained from being pregnant and is now in the doubles phase, and I have gotten even leaner, dropping 12 lbs. We love you attitude and energy and are really inspired by you as well as folks like Dominic, Pam the Blam, Eric and Dreya etc. Our favorite line from the program is from the Plyo workout during the lunge warmups, when you say "get ready...cos it's coming!"

Tony...thanks for your encouragement regarding YogaX. This is one workout that I am yet to tackle, but I have promised myself to do so this month. My wife has managed to get to the 1-hour mark before she gives up, which is great cos she used to stop at the 30 minute mark.

Hey guys! For all with questions about the yoga, that's one I really struggled with when I started P90X last year. I would do the first half of the video and quit. Several people on the Beachbody boards wouldn't do it at all, so I figured I was way ahead at least doing half, which is true. The second half is completely different than the first. Don't misunderstand, it's still difficult in it's own way, but it's not like the first half. The balance poses are tough, but (and I think Tony says this in the DVD) it's the balance of the first half and the second...the opposites that's make it all come together. You need one just as much as the other. You made it through the really rough stuff in the beginning...all of the strength poses. The second part is like an elongated cooldown with focus, and if you make it to the ohms at the end, try them at least once. If you can get passed feeling 'silly', you'll find the ohms super-relaxing.

Anyway, I'm 36 weeks pregnant now, so after my first round of the X last year at this time (finished about a week before finding out I was a few weeks pregnant) I couldn't continue to my second round (really sick the first 26 weeks). However, when I was feeling well again around 26 weeks, I picked back up on yoga. I can't do the Yoga X DVD for obvious reasons, but I picked the one thing that I felt had the most impact on my fitness and started back at it as soon as I could. I researched and found the safe poses for second and third trimester, and I got Tony's Beach Yoga DVD, which is about half an hour and not as intense as the X. Now, I'm just waiting to deliver and recover so I can start X-ing it up again. I have a ton of friends who started at the beginning of the year and I'm SO jealous I have to wait.

By the way, I have kept eating healthy, and I've only gained 22 pounds for the entire pregnancy. I lost a pound over Christmas vacation. All I'm doing is eating healthy and doing the best I can under the circumstances I'm in regarding yoga workouts.
I'm not trying to lose weight, but I'm maintaining my health focus even in a circumstance that physically hinders me.

Oh, and once you get to the second stage, Phil is going to blow your mind, but so will the new workouts...in a good way.

Keep up the good work everyone, and I'll be joining you as soon as I can!

P.S. You are my life-mentor, Tony. Beyond you're workouts, I'm just in awe of your depth and really knowing what's important. You're amazing!

Tony avoiding the nay sayers is awsome advice.I am a Firefighter/Paramedic and when I told them I was getting the P90X program.All I heard was a bunch of jokes.Now that I have completed my first round and now 6 days into round 2 I get excuses from them when I invite them to work out with me in our station gym.I tell them dont worry the old man will be the one coming to get them when they fall out in a fire.Keep up the great work Tony I am a fan for life.John Morris

Suggestion #1: do yoga.

Tony has two(?) newer yoga workouts people might like instead of the long (and hard! hahaha) P90x one.

I never did yoga before P90x. It certainly changed my mind about not only how hard yoga can be, but how good overall it can make you feel. And I'm just talking physically, not any of the spiritual/emotional stuff that some people get out of it.

Tony mentions "durability out in the real world," and it's true. Lifting weights and doing plyo and all that may build more muscle and make you more durable in that way, but having "inflexible" muscles is also a good way to get hurt.

I could write my own example of that, but instead I'll just say this: Tony has said if he had to pick one kind of workout to be the only one he can ever do, he'd pick yoga.

Yes, Tony has a One On One DVD out called Fountain of Youth. I believe it's about 45 minutes, so it's half the time of the P90X DVD. Also, he has a beach yoga session that's about 30 minutes long, so there definitely are other possibilities out there with Tony and Yoga if the almost 2 hour P90X version is too difficult right now. His 10 Minute Trainer program also has a Yoga workout (cannot be bought separately from the whole package at this time), and it's literally 10 minutes, but he moves fast compared to the extended workouts. Then again, you have to 'move' to get a workout in, right?

My husband did this while i was gone for a year. Since I came home I wanted to work out and he wanted to do the P90X again. Nothing hurt worse than that first week (less the Yoga, i love Yoga) but i've gotta say that the thing that amazed me the most was the calf raises. I have great calves, but when we got to that part I wanted to CRY! I was so amazed. I must admit, most days I don't like you Tony, but i keep doing it anyway.

I wish my Dad would have had the opportunity to read this post before his passing. He had been dealing with all the demons you mentioned and I tried so hard to help him. He only made it 8 days into 2010 before is passing at the age of 61. I am sad, then I am mad, then I wonder if I could have done more? It has to be the persons decision we can't force them to do something they don't want to do. Once I heal a little more, I will get back to what I had started. A total addiction to P90X, working out every single day, doing Tony and the Kids with my Kids, alpine skiing, snowshoeing and on on and on and on. With your words I will do it, I will get back into that routine and make sure I don't end up like my poor Father.

Thank you Tony for your words, I will fight like never before, and hope to start that fight next week. Wish me luck.

Just started P90X and loved the Plyometric workout. I told my daughter how good it was and she wanted to try it. So I did a double Plyo day and my 9 year old enjoyed it too! She said it was hard and her legs hurt, I agreed. Thanks for the wonderful program.

Why is it that there is no heavy women in the P90x informercials. I don't have a little bulge I have a big gut and it does not ecourage me to buy the program cause I can't identify with it. I have to say that I'm skeptical about losing the weight in 90 days. I have friends that are doing the p90x but they were fit to begin with.

I am on week 2 and love the program.I am 50 and look and feel much younger. The program is so challenging and yet so amazing. I have been a fitness enthusiast for many years but your program seems to be the right one for me. I get bored very easily and with P90X, it is not the case. I can't wait for the transformation. I am genetically curvy and I hope to enhance those curves even more.

I have been fit most of my life (ran) track in high school, dance, etc... and used to model, so I had to be in great shape. I stopped modeling and it was downhill from there I went from 135 to 185 (ideal weight is 165) and it has been a battle since to lose the weight....

For the last 4 years, I’ve working out 5 to 6 times a week at the gym and have been doing yoga for 4 years, but I have never really been able to lose more than 5 pounds…I would get discouraged, for not seeing any results, and I would start to eat what I wanted and not care..now into 40 ponds. I am 5’9 1/2, so I have been able to get away with the extra weight because I am tall, but the turning point for me was when some lady at IKEA assumed I was pregnant, because of my belly. I was mortified and knew I had to do something about it and I did not want to spend $40 dollars on a trainer for 30 minutes 3 times a week.

So I bought P90x on 02/4/10 and I just completed my first week...YOU ARE AMAZING! I love love LOVE these workouts.....I just wished I had purchased these 2 years ago, I would have saved a lot of money by not paying a trainer and I most likely would have met my goal by now.

I’ve watched your infomercial thousands of time wanting to buy the product, but I chickened out, because I did not think I would be able to do it or that it a ruse, and boy was I wrong. I am not saying the workouts are easy by any means, because they are not, but if you dig deep, you can do it. I now look forward to working out… giving myself that 1 hour a day to work out is the best gift that I can give to myself and I always feel so great after I am done… I feel like I can conquer the word. I get bored easily, but I do not think I will ever get bored with these workouts... I think I will be doing them for the next 10 years….as a former track runner; I love the Plyometrics and the Kenpo.

I have been doing yoga for 4 years and have done 2 hour practices before, but the Yoga X kicked my derriere. I was only able to do 40 minutes, but my goal is to get thru it next week.

last day of my 2nd week,I am already feeling much better,not only physically but also mentally...I laugh more,feel happier, stronger and I have not been needing my cancer sticks since...after a long day at school or work,I rush home to bring it!I feel like Tony and his teammates are my friends waiting for me to join them:)!I much rather work out w them instead of hanging out with people I have nothing in common...
I will just say do not give up, try your best, you will become much happier, healthier,stronger and prettier:)!!

My husband and I have been married for 8 months. He's not a 'fat' guy by any standards, but he has gotten to a point in his life where he thinks he is bigger than he should be. He's always been an athlete and has let life just get the best of him and put weight on in places he hasn't liked. We are a married couple and he WOULD NOT let me see him without his shirt on! That all changed in P90X. He loves it! He is a completely new person! I wasn't so convinced of it until a month after he started and 6 months after having a baby I started it too and I am loving the results! Thank you Tony!

Im 6ft tall, and weighed 320lbs AT age 37. Then someone took a pic of me, and i sat and cried. I started walking on a treadmill, and stoped dringking soda. my weight went to 300 in no time. I wanted to become a cop, but i knew i had to lose alot more. So got back on treadmill mill and ran (as much as i could) got down to 290 then the weight just stoped comming off. So i got P90X been doing it for the first week, and its amazing the weight is just falling off. I know weigh 272 my next goal is 250 then down to 220. Taking 25lbs off at a time. If i can do it anyone can. JUST START!!! No matter how much just do more and more everyday. "BRING IT" Thanks Tony and P90X

Just started P90X this week and I'm a bit confused about the "extra" workouts Tony mentions at times. I'm following the calendar the program came with. I understand it to say on week 1, day 3 I'm suppose to to the Cardio X DVD. Tony mentions something about an extra workout for the Lean program??? Is there a place on the website I can find more detailed information? Thanks! And I'm LOVING it!

I just started the P90X program to prove to my sons that I could do it since they bought it and lacked commitment. I'm 46 years old and watching Tony do the things he does at my age was all I needed for motivation, that and the first disk asking me to "Bring It". Now I'm in it to Max out what ever I can get in 90 days. I have my before pictures and as soon as i figure out how to post them I will.

I may as well tell the whole story while I'm here.My son bought the P90X program and was having difficulty finding the motivation to complete it. I started doing the P90X program to prove to my sons that I could, and to help motivate them. Now i want to see what I can get out of this for me as well. I'm 46 years old and all the motivation I needed was to see Tony doing all the things he does and smiling all the while he's doing it. In 4 more days I'll have my first 30 days in and if I ever figure out how to post them I'll put the before and the 30 day ones up. I right knee was injured in a fall in 2000 and it never really got better. 2years ago this spring I was in a Wheelchair for 4 months and I promised myself that if i ever got out of it that I would condition myself that it would never happen again. THANK YOU TONY for the program and the motivation. It has changed my life forever.

Tony, My daughter bought the P90X program and worked really hard with it and loves it. During the warranty period, she only worked with the first 2 discs and had to put it away for awhile because of her schedule. She went back to it this morning and when she put the other discs into the player, she found the "vibrated..." in the player so bad she thought the player would break. Now the warranty has expired and when she called, they couldn't find her name and she can't find the receipt. Tony, she's 17 and spent her earned money on it and is really upset. I'm really proud of her (she's a 4.0 student, a hard worker and a great young lady) and wondered if you could help? Linda L.-Maine

Did you know that Pink does P90X? They did an article on her in January 2010 Women's Health magazine. Pink stated that she learned about it from her brother and his wife. She does P90X and yoga. That's what really made me decide to buy it.

I JUST GOT THE P90X AND IM ON DAY 4 I JUST FININSHED THE YOGA X I DIDNT LIKE IT AT ALL. NOW KEEP IN MIND I ONLY DID LIKE A HALF HOUR OF IT. IVE BEEN OUT OF SHAPE FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW, BUT WHEN I WAS IN SHAPE I WAS DOING SOCCER AND TAE-KNON-DO HARDCORE SO I DEF KNOW ABOUT CORE AND FLEXIBILITY MAY I ALSO ADD I USED TO BE AN INSTRUCTOR. THOUGH IM NOT LIKE I USED TO BE I STILL KNOW ALL THE TRICKS AND STRETCHES AND POSES THAT IT TAKES TO GET REALLY FLEXIBLE… LONG STORY SHORT I DONT LIKE THE YOGA X , BUT I WILL GIVE IT A SHOT NEXT TIME. AS FAR AS THE OTHER WORKOUTS, THERE ARE GREAT!!! I USED TO BE THAT BIG MUSCULAR GUY, SO I DEFINITELY APPRECIATE WHAT TONY IS DONING AND HOW HE CHALLENGES ME SO THAT I “BRING IT”

Tony's observations about "the change" is absolutely right with me, too. In my 30's and early 40's, I was sporadic in my exercise and diet. I ended up with painful back issues...herniated discs, chronic pain, and worse of all, I couldn't play volleyball more than 15 minutes (and could not jump at the net). In addition, I could only play 9 holes of golf. My tired back made me so tired and depressed. I was told by doctors not to lift anything, avoid jumping and only swim for exercise (yuck...I don't like swimming). I decided to quit babying myself and purchase P90X. Its been one year since I completed it and I have no issues with my back. I play volleyball leagues throughout the year (and yes, I can hit, block, dive,etc.) and I can play at leat 18 holes of golg. Now, at age 44 I have started the P90X Plus. The workouts in P90X and P90X+ keep me strong and fit to go through life's demand.

I have to tell you, I was skeptical at first. I am 33 years old going on 34, but I felt like I was going on 64... I am an active duty Army Officer with 12 years of service commanding troops in the high stress and high paced operational environment of Iraq. After my most recent deployment, I was diagnosed with a Herniated Disk in my lower back and Patella Femoral Syndrome in both knees. This made it extremely difficult to keep up with my regular work out routine. At my most recent assignment, I was leashed to a desk for two years and spent all my evenings and weekends working on a master’s degree. As you can imagine, I put on some weight and was extremely out of shape. My diet was out of whack, eating out at least five days a week. I knew I had to make a change, and the time was now.

So I ordered P90X and got to work doing two-a-day workouts. For the last 90 days, I ran five miles, three days a week in the mornings and P90X every evening when I got home from work. I was 198 pounds when I started. I really did not see any difference after the first 30 days. However, I did notice some progress with my run times, especially during the recovery week. This gave me the positive reinforcement to continue on with just pushing play. So I hunkered down and dug in for the long road in front of me. I persevered through the second 30 days and lost 8 lbs after 60 days. After completing the full 90 days, I have lost a total of 16 lbs and now weigh 182 lbs.

Honestly, I did not stick to the diet guide. I find that sticking to the diet guide and exact meal program almost impossible for most people unless if you don’t have a job. Because just shopping and configuring those meals is a full time job. So I have decided to eat healthier and limit my self to eating out once a week. I pretty much eat only whole foods and have eliminated most of the processed packaged foods filled with preservatives. My diet now consists of Raisin Bran with a Banana and Skim Milk for B-fast. I use to skip B-fast, but I have learned I need to eat something in the morning in order to prevent my body from going into food storage mode. For Lunch I have a Turkey Sandwich on whole wheat or multi-grain bread with and apple and carrot sticks. Dinner consists of grilled chicken breast with a salad or stemmed vegetables. I know it sounds kind of boring, but it really helps when you have something to look forward to at the end of the week like going out to eat at your favorite restaurant.

I have noticed some editing issues with a couple of the workout disks. It is obvious that some of the workout were edited and spliced together. Specifically, some of the transitions between movements are cut short and not equal in length. This week I begin my second 90-days of the program. I plan on adding some more weights to my workouts this time around. I also will add speed drills to my running routine to help prepare for the upcoming Army Physical Fitness Test. Overall, it is a great program that I would definitely recommend to everyone who is in the need of a program that makes a difference. It is not for the lazy, it takes dedication and perseverance. It kicks my butt every day. You have to want it, so bring it!!!

hi am Tisha from Trinidad & Tobago and my Husband got a copy of the P90X a couple months b 4 i give birth to our first child and i have started to use it about two months ago and OMG its is indeed great, my fitness level had drop due to not working out before but now its coming back up thank you for your inspiration in the way you encourage your crew as well as those working out at home. my question is when are you coming to Trinidad and Tobago.
